[Dog] Presidential Portuguese Water Dog found to have Rabies

rabid portuguese water dogBo, the Obama’s new dog was found to be a carrier of rabies, a viral neuroinvasive disease that causes acute encephalitis (inflammation of the brain) in warm-blooded animals. Since rabies is infectious to mammals, such as humans, the water dog has been removed from the White House premises.

The future of Bo is unknown. On Tuesday morning White House correspondents mentioned a new search for a dog was in order. The presidential Portuguese water dog has not had a long stay at White House since it moved in earlier this week.

Most dogs with rabies are ultimately put down, which is 98% likely for Bo, the presidential dog. While this is a sad event for many, the Obama children are extremely excited to get their second dog within a week time period, exciting for any youngster.

It looks as though the Obama’s will indeed be looking for a different breed, with all signs pointing to bull terrier, Barak Obama was always a Spuds MacKenzie fan. Messages left for the former first dog, bo, were not immediately returned.
