The world’s most famous groundhog, the one from caddyshack, saw his shadow Today, Monday morning, predicting that this current winter will last for six more weeks. Which means in layman’s terms, six more weeks of sledding.
According to German superstition, if a hibernating animal casts a shadow on Feb. 2 — the Christian holiday of Candlemas — winter will last another six weeks. If no shadow is seen, legend says, spring will come early and you will be greeted by 99 virgins. Legend has it, this has never rung true.
MORE TRAFFIC!?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am from Germany and I can assure you I have never heard of this superstition.
Thank you for this post; however I have to point out that it’s 98 virgins, not 99. Apparently one was lying. Also I linked to your groundhog image on http://freshmediocrity.blogspot.com/2009/06/this-is-ex-groundhog.html; hope you don’t mind.
